Long-time San Francisco Symphony violist and Sonoma County vigneron Wayne Roden obtained a license to sell wine in 2017. His wife Barbara Quick convinced him to enter three of his wines in the 2022 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. All three wines were awarded medals, including a double gold for the 2019 Russian River Valley Estate Pinot noir, silver for the 2018 Napa Valley (Coombsville) Merlot, and bronze for the 2019 Dry Creek Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. The following year, 2023, yielded a double gold medal for the 2021 Pinot gris, created as a tribute to Barbara’s latest novel, What Disappears. Roden Wines was awarded a third double gold medal in the 2024 SF Chronicle Wine Competition for the 2021 Russian River Valley estate Pinot noir (in the $35-$39 category for Pinot noir).
